Fort Washington Way
Cincinnati, Ohio
Chan Krieger Sieniewicz provided urban design and architectural design associated with a complete reconstruction of Fort Washington Way, part of an interstate highway along the edge of downtown Cincinnati. The 30-acre, $160 million highway and adjoining service roads project includes: design of five new bridges to help reconnect the downtown to the riverfront - including two developed as new "gateways" into the city. In addition, over a mile of roadway walls were designed to provide visual relief for motorists and pedestrians. Custom-designed light fixtures and railings were integrated into the overall streetscape aesthetic yet comply with stringent federal highway standards. Linear parks along the surface boulevards flanking the reconstructed highway were developed in collaboration with Hargreaves Associates of San Francisco.
