Chan Krieger Sieniewicz was selected to create a vision plan for a two mile stretch along the Detroit River between Joe Lewis Arena in downtown Detroit on the eastern end, and Riverside Park at the foot of West Grand Boulevard on the west.
Underutilized, post-industrial properties still occupy this prime stretch of land, blocking access to the water from adjoining neighborhoods with the help of several large private buildings. The plan includes the creation of a continuous, public river walk and programmed green spaces along the river. New view corridors, extensions of north-south streets, enhanced green connections to residential areas and a meandering new "Riverside Drive" will bring Detroit residents into direct, daily contact with their river.
