The Central Artery
Boston, MA
This master plan focused on the 27 acres of land in the center of Boston that will become available when the $4 billion depression of the Central Artery Highway is completed. Passing through eight key districts of downtown, the reuse of this land will enable the reconnection of neighborhoods long severed by the elevated highway. The master plan includes recommendations for the alignment of the surface roadway above the depressed highway; guidelines for the edges of the districts through which it passes; and recommendations for seven new urban spaces, reestablishing five former squares eliminated by the original elevated highway.
