Beth Israel Deaconess
Medical Center
Boston, Massachusetts

The Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Master plan and streetscape design were part of a four-year, $160 million facilities redevelopment program. The intent of the program was to consolidate the two existing campuses of the former Beth Israel Medical Center and the New England Deaconess Hospital into a unified medical center with a single identity. Objectives of the work included: improving the efficiency of several departments at both campuses; distinguish the identity of the overall institution within the larger Longwood Medical Area; incorporate new design features which would define entry portals to the unified campus; improve the appearance of buildings and open spaces; and enhance the institution's public presence in the larger context of Frederick Law Olmstead's Riverway and key corridors to the City of Boston and the Town of Brookline.
