Tom Sieniewicz is a principal at Chan Krieger Sieniewicz, where he has directed a wide range of complex projects for government, institutional and private clients since joining the firm in 1987. Equally at home in the studio and on the construction site, his great passion is making lyrical buildings that really work. He brings 20 years of experience in all aspects of permitting, design and construction, holds a construction supervisor's license, has been accredited by the US Green Building Council as an LEED professional, and is a member of the American Planning Association.
Tom is extensively involved in community affairs in Cambridge, where he chairs the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), coaches youth hockey, runs the Learn-to-Skate program and has been elected as a delegate to the State Democratic Party convention four years in row. His community activities are a natural extension of the firm's founding principle, that the highest calling for a design professional is to work on projects that shape, enliven and enrich the public realm.
Through years of field experience, Tom has earned a strong reputation for understanding the detailed, on-the-ground realities of construction and for being an effective liaison between clients, contractors and members of the trades. During his seven-year tenure on the ZBA, he has prided himself in being both a careful listener and a fair arbiter. More concretely, through his ZBA experience he has been directly involved in the review of more than 2,000 variance, special permit and 40B applications. Clients rely on him for his nuanced understanding of the vagaries of complex permitting problems, as well as his skill in handling challenging public approval processes
Tom received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University. He was a finalist for the Rome Prize in 1988. Before joining Chan Krieger, Tom worked at LeMessurier Consultants, structural engineers. Whenever he can, he plays with his children, fishes for salmon, paints wild landscapes, and runs as far and fast as he can.
