Harvard University selected Chan Krieger Sieniewicz for a multi-phased renovation of a ten-story, 300,000 square foot facility originally designed by José Luis Sert in 1960 and located in the heart of Harvard Square. A street level arcade, originally conceived as a through-block open public way, was transformed into an environmentally-controlled interior space capable of hosting a variety of public and private functions including retail shops and restaurants, university-related information centers, and evening assembly and performances. The project included the conversion of 10,000 square feet of existing top floor mechanical spaces into new offices for Harvard Planning and Real Estate and the Office of News and Public Affairs.
