Congress Street Pedestrian Bridge
Boston, Massachusetts

The architecture, urban design, and landscape architecture of a pedestrian bridge between Boston City Hall Plaza and Faneuil Hall and Quincy Marketplace addressed the following objectives: enhance the historic setting in which the bridge fits; coordinate the bridge’s contribution to the overall civic environment; and provide a safe and fully-accessible path for the disabled, elderly, and children.

Design concepts include: reinforce the traditional "Walk to the Sea" from Beacon Hill to the Boston Harbor; maintain the historic view corridor between Faneuil Hall and the Old State House; suggest an alternative route to enhance the experience of the Freedom Trail; and improve the surrounding public space to facilitate pedestrian movement, enhance public safety, and reinforce the public environment.
